17 - making better choices and finding beauty in every stage of life

You cannot listen to this episode without hearing the joy and appreciation that Jamie Long has for her life. Whether it was the early days as a single mom doing her best to make a good life for her daughter Montana, “riding backroads” with her best friend who would one day be her husband, or soaking in every ounce of these early days with her 18-month-old Walker, you can’t miss the gratitude in her voice as she talks about it all. Jamie shares about the blessings in each stage and how her decisions and actions impacted where she ended up. You’ll get a dose of country living as we talk about rodeo, roping, riding backroads, and how her “purse” is her truck.

Jamie kept me laughing throughout this interview, and I have no doubt you’ll enjoy her story and take away so much from it. Grab your coffee (stop and get one… Jamie doesn’t have a single coffee mug at home), and get ready for another successful mama.

Fun fact: Jamie and I went to school together back in the day. We played basketball together, and she had no idea what she wanted for her life when she blew her knee out and those dreams were shattered. Her one dream? Moving out west.

She got back into roping (imagine a western movie with the hero riding horseback and twirling a lasso overhead. Now add competition, rules, and an audience, and that’s my understanding of roping), which led to meeting the father of her first child, Montana.

Her need for creating a better life for her daughter led her into an unexpected career path, but it was a way to provide while allowing her to build on the Biology degree she had already earned. This choice led her to Savannah, Tennessee, where she met her now husband, Bryan. (Don’t miss our conversation on “riding backroads.” It is a true southern staple that you need to know about.) They now have an 18-month-old son named Walker who has reminded Jamie to hold onto those little moments because time moves quickly.

We talk about junior rodeo, interviewing for a job, and even get into a conversation on your inner monologue (and how Jamie doesn’t have one!). Click your favorite place to listen above so you don’t miss anything!
