6 – redefining success after an unexpected diagnosis
This week, I sit down with my friend Jamie To, the host of Mad City Moms Podcast. With a new home town, a new business, and a new baby, Jamie felt a lump in her breast that quickly turned everything upside down. She shares her journey in learning about herself, about the value of friendships, and how her definition of success shifted dramatically.
After 16 years in Denver, Colorado, Jamie To and her husband, Eric, made a quick decision to move across the country to the Huntsville, Alabama area. Jamie was able to continue her work remotely with AT&T, and Eric soon started Cork & Crust, a wine and pizzeria in Madison, Alabama. They welcomed their son Evan and were trying to get settled into this new life they were building.
And then one morning, Jamie discovered a lump on her breast, and life suddenly looked very different. She was moved quickly through the system from her OB to a specialist who ran the necessary tests and told her with almost complete certainty that she had breast cancer.
Her battle took some unexpected turns and carried her through so many emotions, eventually shifting her desire to live life completely differently. Jamie’s focus shifted from career to family and friends, and she shares how much her relationships matter in her life now.
Jamie is also known for coming up with plenty of new, great ideas (although not necessarily volunteering to put them into action 😊), but one of these was about a podcast blending her love of local events and businesses and pop culture. In true Jamie fashion, she jumped in with both feet and is about to celebrate her ONE YEAR anniversary for Mad City Moms. I loved having the chance to sit down with my fellow podcaster and to hear her transformation story, and I have no doubt you will enjoy it too.
